Hi guys, I am just curious what role node.js is going to play in the new system. How will storage work? If version 2.0 is going to work off the node.js server, that is going to limit my hosting options as I use a shared virtual server for my current and potential users. Are you going to be writing any guides on the new system? I really want to get involved, but if I can't host it without having to upgrade to a dedicated server or have to set up a server and host it locally, then that isn't really cost effective for me. I know this is all new and there is still tons to do. I love the first version, but really looking forward to getting my feet wet with the new system. Great job guys! I look forward to seeing and developing on what you have in store.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "shared virtual server"... does the server run something like Xen, or something like OpenVZ? OpenVZ may lead to some problems, since it has a weird way of managing memory, but Xen hosting will work fine. I can't seem to find any information about how well node runs under OpenVZ, but we'll see what we can do to get it working. One of the reasons we want to shift toward node.js is because VPSes are getting cheaper, and node.js (which can run on VPSes) is a lot easier to write scalable code for than PHP or Python.

For storage, a lot of us were looking at using MongoDB, but we will most likely end up using Persevere, which can abstract between various stores, such as MySQL and Mongo.

I'll send you an email today about how you can get started working with us. Thanks for showing your interest!
